Training on How to Implement the Data Privacy Act

The National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) campaign to inspect the compliance of all companies to the Data Privacy Act (DPA) across industries is now going full blast! With the recent release of the NPC’s Guidelines on Compliance Checks contained in Memorandum Circular No. 18-02 dated September 20, 2018, there is no reason for companies not to comply with this regulation.

Ignoring this compliance issue will expose your organization and management to far greater risk! Failure to comply to this regulation can result to criminal prosecution up to 6 years imprisonment and civil liabilities for accountable officers, regulatory sanctions to suspend business transactions, and penalties of up to Php 5 million.

With the clamor of many organizations to address their compliance issues, the Center for Global Best Practices will run a training program entitled, Compliance to the IRR of the Data Privacy Act & Implementation Best Practices to be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the Manila Marriott Hotel, Pasay City, Philippines.

This will teach you how to design a program of action that is fully compliant. The lecture will cover not only a basic understanding of the Data Privacy Act and its IRR, but also a deeper dive into the advanced   concepts such as privacy accountability, risk assessment, third-party management, data breach identification, incident reporting and more! Attendees will also learn the best practices on how to prepare your organization to implement these changes and to provide solutions and valuable insights to address compliance issues that organizations must address.

This program will feature an expert legal practitioner, Atty. Juan Paolo F. Fajardo, who is a seasoned data privacy practitioner having worked as a legal consultant for the Office of the Commissioner of the National Privacy Commission where he assisted in the formulation of the agency’s framework for compliance.  During his stint with the NPC, he also assisted in the development of the Commission’s 30-60-90 day compliance plan for the private and public sectors and the industry specific privacy codes.  He has helped many local and multinational companies with the implementation of the Data Privacy Act. He finished his Masters of Law with special focus on Information Privacy and Competition Law at Columbia Law School New York; Juris Doctor Degree at University of the Philippines. Currently, he is a partner at Fajardo Law Offices.

This event will also feature Atty, Ivy D. Patdu, MD, who is the longest serving Deputy Commissioners at the National Privacy Commission.  She will share her insights and updates on the new regulations on RA 10173.

Private and government organizations will find this very useful to benchmark and find out if they are on the right track on the compliance to this law.
